Today I am taking part in the book tour of
Flamingo Fashion by Samantha Hunter.
This is a little different for me as it is an audiobook!
I thoroughly enjoyed it though, so let’s get into my review…
Freddie and Fifi are two fashionista flamingos who decide to open a fashion boutique and style other animals on the African savanna influffy pink feathers. The outfits they create have silly results and calamitous outcomes, teaching the valuable lesson that we are perfect, just the way we are!
Flamingo Fashion is a fun story of Freddie and Fifi, fabulous flamingos, who want to make all the other animals on the Savannah bright and pink and as amazing as they are. They open a fashion store and give all the other animals makeovers. When the day is over think they should celebrate…but…they hear a noise outside, the other animals are raging! They can’t live their lives pink and fluffy and sparkly, it just doesn’t work for them. Freddie and Fif realise they are wrong, the other animals are perfect as they are, so they help the animals become the best versions of themselves and everyone is happy.
What an excellent story for little ones! Not only is it a fun audiobook to listen to with the use of rhyme, alliteration, and character voices from the narrator, but it has a great message. Love yourself as you are! Don’t change for others! Don’t try to be like others, be you!
I could see this audiobook listened to not only by parents with their children, but used in EYFS settings to spark thought, discussions, and imagination around learning about yourself and others.
About the author.
Sam Hunter is a full-time mum, podcast host and entrepreneur. She started writing after the birth of her son in 2017 and self-published her first book-Flamingo Fashion-at the end of 2020.
Sam wrote creatively as a young girl on her weekends and during visits to her mum’s office in the summer holidays. All of her writing was about animals and it is no wonder that her first book is a children’s story set in an animal’s world! Her first book, a middle grade novel called Freddie’s Fantastic Adventures, was inspired by a children’s t-shirt with a flamingo on the front and while out walking a few years later, the idea for Flamingo Fashion popped into her head! Sam is passionate about developing both children’s and adult’s creativity and her writing is designed to inspire imaginations in a fun and playful way. Proceeds from the book are going to the LitWorld charity, who work to develop children’s creative confidence and literacy skills, through the power of storytelling. Sam lives with her son, daughter and husband in Hertfordshire, England.
Thank you to Samantha Hunter, and Helen Lewis from Literally Public Relations Ltd for inviting me to take part in the tour.
